“THIS TURBULENT PRIEST,” THE MUSICAL, TO RETURN TO SAINT EDWARD’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH
Richard Ryan will appear in his one-man show “This Turbulent Priest” on November 20 for one night only prior to taking the show out of town for performances under the auspices of Robert Gewald’s New York Management company.
The story of Thomas Becket, is a fascinating one. Having risen to become Henry II’s Chancellor of the Realm, Henry decided to have him appointed Archbishop of Canterbury. Henry pre-supposed that once in office, Thomas could be manipulated. To Henry’s surprise Thomas gave himself to God and defied his King. Henry by strong implication suggested that he would be pleased with the death of Thomas, thereby hangs our tale.
It has come to the last hour of Becket’s life. All five characters are portrayed by Richard including the alluring Eleanor of Aquitaine. Five new songs grace the score with a book written by Richard in iambic pentameter. All in all a wonderful presentation of joy and tragedy in a great show that brings audiences to their feet.
The performance will be held 7:00 pm on Thursday, Nov. 20th at Saint Edward’s Episcopal Church, 460 N. Grandview St. Mount Dora, FL 32757. The show is open to the public. All we ask is a faith offering. For more information call Marianne Ryan (352) 383-1801 email @gmail.com
