Engaging youth in Christ-centered activities is a powerful thing, which is why the Youth Ministry Institute does everything it can to empower its leaders.

The Youth Ministry Institute (YMI) recently held its bimonthly meeting for youth leaders in the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida. The meetings are held during the odd-numbered months of the year and allow YMI leaders to do a number of things.

“We spend time planning the several events we do together as a diocese,” said YMI Executive Director Steve Schneeberger, who runs YMI’s Florida division from its headquarters at 142 E. Jackson St. in Orlando. “We also go over our calendar items to be sure we aren’t in conflict with other events.”

Schneeberger said between 10 and 18 people usually attend the meetings. Attendees are volunteers, and part-time and full-time youth ministry leaders in the diocese, he said.

“It is an open meeting to anyone who characterizes themselves as a youth leader in their local church,” Schneeberger said.

Youth leaders also can learn a lot about YMI’s services during the meetings. YMI offers six months of free coaching for those who register for a multiple-year youth ministry coaching and training program, according to the organization’s website.

YMI also offers job placement with on-site support; cohort learning via four methodologies (two-year learning, coaching, online learning and new ministry); evaluation processes; professional assessments; workshops; and conferences.
