Episcopal youth and their friends can have a blast after school lets out – thanks to the Sweetwater Middle School Summer Day Camp and pre-K through sixth-grade camp.
The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Longwood will hold eight weeklong camps running from June 5 to July 28 out of the Sweetwater Episcopal Academy, 251 East Lake Brantley Drive in Longwood. Camps run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended day care from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMP
Sweetwater Summer Day Camp has expanded to include “big kid” activities for middle school-age youth, according to Marcy Charles, ministries coordinator for the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. Middle school kids will have the opportunity to go on numerous road trips this summer to a variety of attractions and venues.
Cost is $250 for each middle school five-day camp, which includes lunch. Fees are due on the Friday before the next week’s camp. Discounts will be provided for registrations paid early enough.
On weeks one and five, trips will include outings to: Dave & Buster’s, kayaking (week 1 only), Universal Studios (extended hours of 8 a.m.-6 p.m.), Rebounderz, and New Smyrna Beach.
On weeks two and six, trips will be made to: Black Hammock Airboat Ride, paddle boarding, Skeletons: Animals Unveiled (week two only), Medieval Times (week six only), Fun Spot, and DeLeon Springs/Sugar Mill.
On weeks three and seven, trips will be made to: Escape Room, Zoom Air, Daytona Lagoon, Go Carts, and Daytona Beach/Chocolate Factory.
On weeks four and eight, trips will be made to: water park, laser tag, bowling, Aquila Rock climbing, and Wekiva Falls Resort.
All campers should wear comfortable clothing, including one-piece bathing suits. Campers are asked to bring suits, towel, and sunscreen for water activities, as well as extra spending money for all camps. Cell phones are allowed, but camp officials are not responsible for phones that are lost or stolen.
PRE-K THROUGH SIXTH-GRADE CAMP
Pre-K through sixth-graders will enjoy sports and water activities, art and music, and science exploration in their camps. All weeks will have a theme.
Themed-weeks are: Fun in the Sun, June 5-9; Sports Week, June 12-16; Abracadabra! June 19-23; Forever Friends (friendship week), June 26-30; Holiday Hoopla, July 3-7 (short week, no camp Tuesday, July 4); Lights! Camera! Action! (skit week), July 10-14; Carnival, July 17-21; and Wild & Wacky, July 24-28.
Camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with before-care starting at 7:30 a.m. and aftercare ending at 6 p.m. Additional fee of $5 per morning for before-care, and $5 per hour for aftercare or $60 per week payable at week’s end.
Registration fee is $185 per week, except for July 4th week, which is $165. A three-day week option also is available for $135. Fees are due the Friday before the next week’s camp. A 5 percent discount is available if paid early enough.
Campers must bring their lunch every day. However, a pizza lunch will be offered on Fridays for $5 per camper. Afternoon snacks for purchase also will be available daily.
Youth in all camps will be supervised by staff members that pass background checks. Some staff members are CPR-certified.
