Episcopalians looking for a wonderful outreach opportunity in 2018 might want to check out Holy Apostles’ Mission to Uganda.

The Diocese of Central Florida announced Tuesday that Holy Apostles in Satellite Beach will join forces with Solar Light for Africa on a mission to Uganda in April of 2018. The 17-day mission, which will run April 16 to May 2, still has some spots available to parish members throughout the diocese.

The missionary team has an exciting trip planned, with the group traveling from Orlando to Entebbe, Uganda, with a 21-hour layover in Dubai. The layover will include a desert safari in the United Arab Emirates.

In Uganda, the team will do a variety of missionary work, including installing solar power in village homes, a rural clinic, and a block of teachers’ homes at a rural school. The team also will cross the equator, kayak on the Nile River, and take a safari in Murchison Falls National Park in northwest Uganda.

Charlene Turner, wife of Father Eric Turner, rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Melbourne, is leading the team. Charlene Turner is a veteran missionary, having led trips to Uganda for nearly 20 years. “If you have ever thought about traveling to Africa, this would be a great time to check it off your bucket list!” Charlene Turner said.
