Flower lovers can learn all about new designs for sanctuary, home and garden when the 10th annual Flower Seminar is held Friday, Feb. 2, at Saint Peter the Fisherman Church, 4220 Saxon Drive, New Smyrna Beach.
A benefit for Saint Peter’s Flower Guild and outreach programs, the Flower Seminar begins with a brunch at 9 a.m. Demonstrations follow from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The event, which is open to the public, costs $35 per person.
“We have a great program planned,” said event spokesperson Sally Spencer. “The theme this year is Light, Love and Laughter. Kind of a silly title for a flower workshop, but when we thought about our decade-plus together these three components kept surfacing.
“Light, how we look at flowers, where we are in space, how light enters into planning designs both big and small,” Spencer said. “And the lightness of spirit that comes from a day in the garden or after a well-executed floral design. We’ll examine our love of nature, gardens, flowers and water, but also of each other, fellow gardeners and strangers. And laughter, at ourselves and with others as we make mistakes, and what a great place flower design is to practice that art. If all that sounds too esoteric … it will all be disguised in demonstrations using a variety of flowers and foliage.”
Spencer said arrangements will include new greens designs for Lent and exciting floral ideas for Easter “So, bring your cameras and notebooks,” she said. “With Florida’s abundance of plant material, you’ll leave the seminar excited to play and experiment throughout the upcoming seasons.”
This year’s seminar also will include the presentation of the new Flower Guild Room, which has been completed and will be open to the public following the workshop. Guild members will be on hand to answer questions and for lively conversation.
“Saint Peter’s Flower Guild works very hard to provide an exceptional seminar for our guests and this one promises to one of our best, yet,” Spencer said.
