Serious and impactful social issues such as human trafficking, feeding the homeless and aiding Puerto Rico in the wake of last summer’s hurricane damage will be among the topics this weekend at the Canterbury Retreat & Conference Center in Oviedo.
Approximately 50 brothers from chapters in Miami, Jacksonville and Central Florida will gather at Canterbury Conference Center in Oviedo on Saturday, Feb. 17, for the inaugural Brotherhood of St. Andrew Regional Conference. The event, to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is the brainchild of a Brotherhood of St. Andrew officer who thought the brothers could benefit from a regional meeting in between the organization’s triennial meetings.
“It’s going to be a very good day,” said the Rev. Ed Bartle, the Central Florida Diocesan coordinator for the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and associate rector at St. George’s Episcopal Church in The Villages. “We will have a number of chapters represented.”
Bartle said the Rev. Mary Delancey, deacon at Grace Episcopal Church in Ocala, will talk about human trafficking, and Jose Rodriguez will discuss the Puerto Rican crisis.
Father James Giles and Brotherhood of St. Andrew national vice president Everett Price will talk about veterans and feeding the homeless in the Ocala National Forest. Additionally, Brotherhood of St. Andrew national president Jeffrey Butcher will talk about leadership training.
