General Convention to Be Live Streamed This YearJuly 3, 2018 • Jeff Gardenour  • DIOCESAN FAMILY • EPISCOPAL & ANGLICAN NEWS

Local parishioners for the next 10 days will have multiple ways to follow the 79th annual General Convention of the Episcopal Church.

The Episcopal Church announced it has created a media hub for Episcopalians anywhere in the world to follow live legislative sessions as the General Convention officially gets underway Thursday, July 5, and runs through Friday, July 13. Access is available through the General Convention’s Media Hub at: https://www.episcopalchurch.org/general-convention-2018-media-hub on the internet. At the top of the page are video boxes for the House of Deputies, House of Bishops, and House of Bishops in Spanish. Daily worship and special events also will be live streamed.

Eleven people, including Bishop Greg Brewer, will be on hand for the triennial event. This year’s convention is expected to draw a whopping 10,000 Episcopalians throughout the U.S. and Province IX (Dioceses of Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Central Ecuador, Ecuador Litoral, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela).

Deputy certification, a legislative session, and the Opening Eucharist kickstart the first full day on Thursday, July 5.

In addition to the media hub site, local Episcopalians can get the Eventmobi App for the 79th General Convention through code: 79gc via the internet. Currently, there are several ways to obtain the app:

General Convention viewers can get a head start on the event by going to https://www.generalconvention.org/orientation-materials-gc2018 and checking out orientation information, schedules, and legislative data along with video introductions from the Most Rev. Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop; the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, President of the House of Deputies; and the Rev. Canon Michael Barlowe, Secretary of General Convention, according to the Episcopal News Service.

Additionally, the Central Florida Episcopalian staff will be providing daily posts, briefs, and videos on the General Convention and encourages those who are interested to check our updates at www.cfdiocese.org and through the diocese’s social platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

Bishop Greg Brewer and 10 others from the Diocese of Central Florida will be making the trip to the Lone Star State. Seven members of the diocese contingent received deputation assignments for the 2018 General Convention. They are: Bishop Brewer, secretary of Evangelism and Church Planting; the Rev. Phyllis Bartle, vice chair of Stewardship & Socially Responsible Investing; Sonya Shannon, Christian Formation and Discipleship; Krisita Jackson, secretary of Privilege and Courtesy; the Rev. Jim Sorvillo, Congregational and Diocesan Vitality; Tom Alday, Evangelism and Church Planting; and Erick Perez, Prayer Book, Liturgy and Church Music.

Also representing the Diocese of Central Florida are the Rev. Canon Tim Nunez, Canon to the Ordinary; the Rev. Canon Dr. Justin Holcomb, Canon for Vocations; the Rev. Jose Rodriguez; and Heather Rodriguez.

Canon Nunez asks for prayers for the Diocesan contingent on this journey:

“Almighty and everlasting Father, who hast given the Holy Spirit to abide with us forever: Bless, we beseech thee, with His grace and presence, the bishops and the other clergy and the laity soon-to-be) assembled in thy Name, that thy Church, being preserved in true faith and godly discipline, may fulfill all the mind of Him who loved it and gave Himself for it, thy Son Jesus Christ our Savior; who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
