Believing that true followers of Christ have a commitment to love and serve others, The Rt. Rev. Gregory O. Brewer, bishop of the Diocese of Central Florida, has united with three other Florida bishops in a joint letter to Gov. Ron DeSantis. The joint effort from Brewer along with The Rt. Rev. Peter Eaton, bishop of Southeast Florida; the Rt. Rev. Russell Kendrick, bishop of the Central Gulf Coast; and The Rt. Rev. Dabney Smith, bishop of Southwest Florida; encourages DeSantis in his pursuit of an investigation into the current difficulties in Florida’s unemployment benefits system during this season of COVID-19.

The letter speaks out strongly on behalf of those in need, noting that this system is “unjust, if not in its intention, then certainly in its consequences.” The four bishops call on the governor to give “clear and unequivocal leadership” to address existing problems, “especially for those underserved people who are our friends and neighbors.”
