Mrs. Jennifer Hill, member of St. Gabriel’s, Titusville, charter organization representative to the Boy Scouts of America and Pack Committee Chairman of Cub Scouts Pack 370, received the prestigious St. George Award of the Episcopal Church on Feb. 5 in a ceremony at the church.
This national recognition acknowledges “distinguished service by adults in the spiritual, physical, mental, and moral development of youth through service to the Church and through national youth agency programs,” including the Boy Scouts of America. Her nomination for the award included the recommendation of her rector, the Rev. Rob Griffith, and the church vestry along with the review and signed approval of the Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin S. Holcomb, bishop of the Diocese of Central Florida.
Hill has served as Pack Committee chairman for more than five years and has been an active member of St. Gabriel’s for more than a decade, serving in various leadership roles including vestry member and verger. She has led recruitment efforts for the Scouts, overseen reregistration and rechartering operations and also spearheaded major renovation projects to enhance the scouting experience, per an article in Space Coast Daily.
In addition, she has served as a counselor for Programs of Religious Activities with Youth, a Bible-based religious emblems program designed to bring children, youth and families to Christ, and has mentored Scouts through classes leading to the awarding of these emblems. She has also worked in various outreach initiatives, including the annual “Scouting for Food” initiative, which has provided local food banks with thousands of pounds of food. She and her husband, Edwin Hill, have one son, Graham, who is currently working toward the Eagle Scout Award.
“Mrs. Jennifer Hill’s selfless dedication to the spiritual, physical, mental, and moral development of local youth is truly commendable,” Griffith told Space Coast Daily. “Her leadership and commitment to serving others embody the principles of the scouting movement and make her a deserving recipient of the Saint George Award.”
“Every year one person from each diocese is eligible to receive this award with the approval of the bishop,” St. Gabriel’s said in a Facebook post about the award. “Jenni’s service to the scouts in promoting the spiritual growth of young men and women in the troops that meet at St. Gabriel’s Church have helped it become one of the largest packs (in the top 2%) in the U.S. Well done!”
