St. Richard’s Episcopal Church, 5151 Lake Howell Road, in Winter Park will hold four rehearsals in September for The Fifth Sunday Evensong.
The Fifth Sunday Evensong will be performed by the Women of Schola St. Richard’s in conjunction with the children and youth treble voices on Sunday, Sept. 30, according to the latest St. Richard’s news release. Warm-up will be held at 4 p.m., followed by Evensong at 5 p.m.
According to the Episcopal Church website, “evensong” has been the favored name for vespers, derived from the Latin word vesperis or evening, the Evening Office of the western church. In many churches, evensong is performed by clergy and choir as a choral liturgy.
Dr. Carl MaultsBy, who serves as the director of music/organist for St. Richard’s, will conduct rehearsals on the following dates:
- Sunday, Sept. 9, 12:15 p.m.
- Wednesday, Sept. 12, 7 p.m.
- Thursday, Sept. 20, 6:45 p.m.
- Sunday, Sept. 23, 12:15 p.m.
In other news, St. Richard’s is preparing for its 2018 Summoning the Divine Fall Series (Literature through the Lens of Faith). Writings from the spiritual side of Edgar Allen Poe (1808-1849) will be discussed in three separate sessions in September, October and November.
Pamela Menke is the designer-facilitator of the series and will make reading packets available in advance at the St. Richard’s church office or by emailing her at menkepamela@yahoo.com on the internet.
