St. Richard’s Church receives grant for African project

At the 78th General Convention of The Episcopal Church, meeting in June, United Thank Offering granted $46,000 to a group from St. Richard’s Episcopal Church, Winter Park, to support the digging of two wells in the arid region of Kondoa, Tanzania.

“The effort is to find water on property owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Konda, to bring the population of surrounding villages to the church for both well water and the living water of love and community,” said the Rev. Allison Harrity, rector of St. Richard’s. Continue reading

Fr. Ballentine elected to Executive Council

The 78th General Convention of the Episcopal Church, meeting in Salt Lake City, has elected the Rev. Jabriel Simmonds Ballentine, rector of St. John the Baptist 11403462_10153074616417746_4494085379499227752_nEpiscopal Church, Orlando, one of two clergy members to the Executive Council.

“Please pray for me…pray for the Church!” Fr. Ballentine posted to his Facebook page after the election on Monday, June 29.

The Executive Council carries out the programs and policies adopted by the General Convention. It has 38 members, 20 of whom (four bishops, four priests or deacons and 12 lay people) are elected by General Convention and 18 — one clergy and one layperson from each of the nine provincial synods — for six-year terms, plus the presiding bishop and the president of the House of Deputies. Teresa Harrison will be teaching iconography, called icon writing, which is actually a painting process. Iconography introduces ancient Greek and Russian artistic styles. This year’s workshop will be held July 26-31, 2015.

Anti-Racism Training & Title IV Training – July 15th

Anti-Racism Training & Title IV and The Episcopal Church Canons Training are being offered at the diocesan office, 1017 East Robinson Street, Orlando, on Wednesday, July 15th.

These classes are open to all. They are required for all people in the discernment process toward ordination. The Risk Management policies of the diocese also recommend the training for Supervisors and Decision-Makers, e.g. Standing Committee members, Diocesan Board members, Vestry members, and Boards of Directors for Schools.

The classes run “back to back”:
9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Anti-Racism Training
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Title IV Training
