Forgotten Son / Anointed One
The LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the LORD does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
David said to Goliath, “The LORD does not save by sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s and he will give you into our hand.” 1 Samuel 17:47b
Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: I anointed you king over Israel… Why have you despised the word of the LORD, to do what is evil in his sight?”
2 Samuel 12:7-9
David prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me.” Psalm 51:10-11
King David said to the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for the temple will not be for mortals but for the LORD God. So I have provided for the house of my God, so far as I was able… But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to make this freewill offering? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.” 1 Chronicles 29:1-2a, 14
