The St. Mark’s Episcopal Community this weekend will be recognizing some special folks around the world.
Father Gary Jackson, rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Cocoa, announced that St. Mark’s Episcopal Community is presenting its inaugural Space Coast Inspiration Awards on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Cocoa Civic Center, 430 Delannoy Ave., Cocoa. A total of 17 award recipients will be honored.
The reception begins at 6 p.m., with the program set to run 7 to 9 p.m.
“We will be honoring those who have inspired others around the Space Coast, as well as around the world,” Jackson said.
The event will feature Kechi Okwuchi, a Nigerian-American singer and speaker who survived the Sosoliso Airlines flight 1145 crash in 2005 and went on to become a finalist in the 12th season of America’s Got Talent in 2017. She has become an international star, despite suffering third-degree burns and undergoing more than 100 surgeries.
Additionally, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Proceeds are earmarked for the preservation of the historic St. Mark’s Episcopal Community, Jackson said.
Participants also will be able to enjoy savories and pastries along with an array of beverages, courtesy of the dining and entertainment establishments of The Historic Cocoa Village Association.
