Music lovers can learn all about the power of voice and then some when GIA Publications holds its “Sing to the Rafters” event from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Saturday, March 9, at the Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist in Orlando.
Hosted by Dr. Carl MaultsBy, the special event will feature Dr. James Abbington, who will lead participants in faith-filled songs in an examination of the history of American sacred music. All ages, denominations and skill-levels are welcome to experience the thrill of singing in a large group of excited people in one of Abbington’s nationally renowned workshops. Singers and choir directors, especially, can gain a wealth of knowledge and skill at the events.
Participants will receive a variety of choral anthem octavos, as well as a free copy of the first African-American Ecumenical Hymnal, One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism.
There are three registration options for the event. Pre-registration, which ensures a hymnal and octavo packet, is $25 per person. Early registration closes at 3 p.m., Monday, March 4. Late registration is $30 per person.
Group pre-registration offers a discounted rate of $20 per person for groups of 10 or more. Walk-in registration is $30 per person and does not guarantee a book or octavo packet.
Registration is being accepted online at www.giamusic.com/aacms or by calling 1-800-442-1358.
