Diocese Co-Sponsoring 2 Workshops for ClergyJanuary 21, 2019 • Jeff Gardenour  • DIOCESAN FAMILY • EVENTS • REACHING OUT

Diocesan clergy can learn about missional church, how to be disciples of Christ and what business leaders wish spiritual leaders knew when a pair of workshops are held in the next three months.

The Diocese of Central Florida will co-sponsor the “Fostering Missional Communities” workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 19, and the “What Business Leaders Wish More Pastors Knew” workshop on Thursday, April 4, as announced recently by the Rev. Canon Dr. Justin Holcomb, Canon for Vocations.

“Both workshops are organized for only clergy for the purpose of providing recourses and training on how to set the tone and cast vision for mission and how to be more deliberate and effective in pastoring business leaders,” Holcomb said.

Schitter

The “Fostering Missional Communities” workshop will be presented by the Rev. Dr. Damein Schitter from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Feb. 19, at the Citrus Club in downtown Orlando. Clergy will learn about new research on the top discipleship methods and how missional church works in area parishes during the event, which is co-sponsored by Made to Flourish.

Schitter brings an impressive academic and professional background to the workshop. He recently completed his doctoral work at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield, Illinois) with an emphasis on non-formal learning communities, particular to the faith, work, and economics movement.

Currently serving as the lead pastor on the preaching team at NewCity Orlando, Schitter provides spiritual guidance in a number of ways for NewCity congregations. He joined the NewCity staff in early 2014 as the community group pastor, according to the NewCity website.

About two months later, the “What Business Leaders Wish More Pastors Knew” workshop will be presented by Katherine

Alsdorf

Leary Alsdorf from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 4, at the Country Club of Orlando. The workshop is free, but reservation is required.

Holcomb said the goal of the workshop is for clergy to learn how to disciple business leaders in ways they want and need, rather than your own. This workshop also is co-sponsored by Made to Flourish.

Alsdorf, the founder and former executive director of Redeemer’s Center for Faith & Work, also is an established writer. She and Tim Keller of Every Good Endeavor have co-authored work.

After spending 18 months with husband, John, establishing the New City Fellows organization, which vies to supply young professionals to be Gospel-shaped leaders in various capacities in Raleigh, N.C., Katherine Alsdorf returned to Redeemer’s City to City, advising the organization’s future in faith and work circles, Holcomb said.
