Administrative assistants are the lifeblood of the Diocese of Central Florida, and their hard work is set to be rewarded.

For the seventh consecutive year, St. John-the-Baptist Church, 1000 Bethune Drive, Orlando will hold its annual Administrative Assistants Luncheon to honor people who serve administratively throughout the diocese. This year’s event will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 25.

Event organizer Beverly Mitchell said St. John-the-Baptist personnel are hoping to host 80 guests from all over the Diocese.  “Everyone in the Diocese has been invited,” Mitchell said. “We also invite people from neighboring churches in our area.”

The event is famous for offering a smorgasbord of food that is normally seen only on holidays. “We will have holiday festive food, America’s favorites,” Mitchell said. “It is a very special day for us.”

Marilyn Lang, secretary to Canon to the Ordinary, the Rev. Tim Nunez, always has been impressed with the food and beverages. “It’s like a big Sunday family meal,” she said. “They’ll have roast, turkey, tons of dessert. It’s very nice.”

Making the event even more special is the fact that diocesan clergy serve the food to the administrative assistants. Past clergy who have served in the event are Nunez and the Rev. Dr. Jon Davis, executive director of the Canterbury Retreat & Conference Center in Oviedo.

“The invitations have gone out to all the clergy,” Mitchell said. “The administrators are invited also. There are times when the administrators bring their office staff.”

Lang said the event is also special in that “it’s a good way to put faces to names and to get to know one another. That’s very important.”
