Christ Church in Longwood will welcome seven candidates into the Episcopal faith on Sunday, September 23, and Bishop Greg Brewer will be on hand to celebrate the joyous occasion.

The Diocese of Central Florida announced that Brewer will preach, celebrate, confirm five candidates and receive two more at the 10:30 a.m. service (Holy Eucharist Rite II) at Christ Church, 151 West Church Ave., Longwood. Scriptures for the service are: Jeremiah 11:18-20; Psalm 54; James 3:13-4:3; 7-8; and Mark 9:30-37.

Clergy present will be the Rev. Michelle Roach and the Rev. Dr. Jada Kearns.

“Only a bishop is able to confirm or receive people into the Episcopal Church,” said Sarah Caprani, executive assistant to Brewer. “When Bishop Brewer visits churches around our diocese on Sundays, one of his primary objectives is to confirm and receive candidates since priests are not able to administer this sacrament.”

Individuals who were previously confirmed by a Roman Catholic or ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) bishop are received into the Episcopal Church. Individuals from all other religious backgrounds are confirmed into the Episcopal Church, Caprani said.

Following this Sunday’s service, a dedication of “The Walter Lane Memorial Garden” to commemorate longtime Christ Church parishioner, Walter Lane, will be held.
