The thrill and drama of horse racing will electrify guests in June when they attend the Canterbury Retreat & Conference Center’s 6th Annual Celebration Dinner & Silent Auction.

Canterbury will celebrate 36 years of ministry on Sunday, June 3, when it holds “A Triple Crown Affair”-themed annual dinner. Big hats and bow ties will be welcome at the place “where people learn to run well, make a difference and finish strong!” according to a Canterbury press release.

The dinner/auction is held after the conclusion of the third and final of the actual Triple Crown races. The Kentucky Derby runs May 5, followed by The Preakness on May 19, and The Belmont Stakes on June 2. Reception begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and program at 6 p.m.

Special guest speaker will be Dr. Joel C. Hunter, who served as senior pastor of Northland Church in Longwood for 32 years and today serves as chairman of several non-profit organizations as part of his new missionary work. He is now Chairman of the Community Resource, and Chairman of the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness.

“We’ve sold out the last couple of years,” said outgoing Canterbury Retreat & Conference Center executive director Father Jon Davis. “We’re expecting another big crowd.”

The silent auction is expected to feature items valued from $5 to $5,000. The online auction begins in advance on May 15, while the on-site auction runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m., June 3. For more information on the auction, access www.canterburyretreat.org/auction2018 on the internet.

Individual tickets for the event are $35. Individuals and/or businesses also can sponsor a table for $500, which includes eight tickets, recognition in the program, and a table sign.
