Easter Day is the highest-attended church day of the year, according to the Christian Post. And the Diocese of Central Florida is readying for the onslaught of parishioners in both the run-up (Holy Week) to and for the start of the Easter season.
Bishop Greg Brewer is set to make three appearances – two during Holy Week – at The Cathedral Church of Saint Luke, 130 N. Magnolia Ave., in downtown Orlando. Brewer will be preaching and celebrating the Maundy Thursday Holy Eucharist with Washing of Feet, and with choir, beginning at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 29.
An all-night prayer watch will follow the service. Free parking is available in the Washington Street lot until 10:30 p.m., and in the Regions Bank garage. Limited mobility parking is accessible in the Jefferson Street lot, according to the Cathedral Church of Saint Luke website.
Parishioners are asked to park in the small lot off Jefferson Street behind the church for peace of mind as those who park in the Washington Street lot after 10:30 p.m. will be assessed a fee or risk being towed.
On Friday, March 30, Bishop Brewer will preach, and Dean Kidd will celebrate the Good Friday Liturgy, with Holy Eucharist from the Reserved Sacrament, Stations of the Cross and Rite of Reconciliation.
Good Friday Liturgy and Stations of the Cross with Bishop Brewer presiding and preaching will be held from noon to 3 p.m. The Cathedral will stay open until 3 p.m. for those who desire silent prayer. Additionally, a priest will be available for confession and the Rite of Reconciliation.
Free parking will be available in the Jefferson Street lot, or in the reserved Cathedral spaces in the Washington Street lot along the wall, according to the church.
Children’s Stations of the Cross will begin at 4 p.m. in the Great Hall. There will be free parking for the noon and 4 p.m. services in the Washington Street lot.
At 7:30 p.m., Tenebrae, led by the Cathedral Chambers, will be held. It is an austere Service of Darkness with classic hymns, a cappella choral music – ancient to modern, prayers for Holy Week, and the dramatic reading of Christ’s passion. The event is free.
Free parking is available in the Washington Street lot until 11 p.m. and in the Regions Bank garage. Limited mobility parking is accessible in the Jefferson Street lot.
On Holy Saturday, March 31, a morning prayer will be held in Armed Forces Chapel at 8:30 a.m. The Great Vigil of Easter with lighting of the new fire, candlelight, choir, and baptisms will start at 7:30 p.m. Parishioners are reminded to bring their bell or noisemaker.
