The Cathedral Concerts Downtown has featured a number of mesmerizing, joyful events through the years, and this year figures to be no exception.
On Sunday, March 31, at 6 p.m., the Cathedral Church of St. Luke in downtown Orlando presents a special program featuring the Egyptian oud, a short-neck lute-type, pear-shaped stringed instrument that is often played in Middle Eastern countries. It is considered the oldest Arabian instrument by many scholars.
Bringing the extraordinary sounds of the oud to listeners is Ramy Adly, who will perform with a chamber orchestra and various Cathedral choirs in an inspirational program of original compositions and improvisations, according to a Cathedral press release.
The free event also will include music by Schubert, Albinoni and Michael Miller, along with popular hymns. Free parking and childcare also are available, but church officials request that childcare is reserved in advance by emailing Susie Dunlap at sdunlap@stlukescathedral.org for confirmation.
Concertgoers can park for free in the public lot on Washington at Magnolia, and at downtown street meters for free after 6 p.m. Attendees also can park in the Regions Bank garage via Washington and retrieve an entrance ticket. Attendees then can receive an exit ticket from an usher and use those two tickets to leave the garage for free.
The Cathedral Church of St. Luke, located on the corner of Magnolia Avenue and Jefferson Street, has been offering free concerts to the Greater Orlando area for nearly 50 years.
