The No One Hungry ministry is making sure food demands are met in many places, including those from youth right here in Central Florida.
Deacon Johnny Clark recently announced that No One Hungry, a food bank ministry at his church, St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Titusville, has partnered with Second Harvest of Central Florida to start an Eagles Market at Astronaut High School, and has created an emergency food relief program at Madison Middle School – both located in Titusville.
The Eagles Market began as a joint effort between No One Hungry and the Truth Free Will Baptist Church in Titusville, Clark said. The Eagles Market then joined forces with Second Harvest to form the student marketplace, which is open three days per week, with one day being designated as Fresh Market, which provides produce and fruit.
“This is a program for students run by students in the school,” Clark said. “There is a designated room that has non-perishable food items, beverages, snacks, clothing, toiletry items, school supplies, and personal hygiene items.
“The market empowers students to be part of the support of others and their families who may be challenged by food insecurity,” Clark said. “The market is supported by community leaders, individuals and organizations by their monetary donations. All students of AHS qualify to receive from the marketplace and it is a ‘Judgement Free Zone.’”
The emergency food relief program at Madison began with a conversation with a guidance counselor at the school, Clark said. “It was determined that there was a need to provide weekend food to students who, for whatever reason, would not have sufficient food on weekends. An emergency bag is available and is given at the (discretion) of the guidance counselor. This program is solely supported by the No One Hungry ministry.”
The Eagles Market and Madison Middle School emergency food relief program are the latest ventures for No One Hungry. The ministry also pairs with Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Titusville to provide food for two pantry locations in Titusville. Currently, the two churches distribute a whopping 4,000 pounds-plus of food monthly.
“We serve individuals, families, homeless, shut-ins, and assist other food ministries,” Clark said. “We distribute non-perishable food items, frozen meat, and produce. Also, available to meet needs (of) clothing, toiletry items, and items to meet the needs of homeless, including cook stoves, tents, clothing and toiletry items.
No One Hungry also assists in helping a local catering business provide food donations to a transitional program for men recovering from addiction. Additionally, St. Gabriel’s offers a Saturday lunch program through its “The Forge” ministry by providing some food items and beverages, distributing approximately 100 lunches every Saturday.
