Vocational Diaconate Path

2020-2021 Courses

Diaconal training is a separate course of study within the Institute for Christian Studies, and offers a full curriculum for those called to the vocational diaconate. This two-year curriculum seeks to empower those called to the ministry of deacon to better understand this call and to begin to experience this ministry, witnessing to the servant ministry of our Lord.

For a detailed overview of Diaconal training please refer to the Deacon Customary.

Considering a call to the Vocational Diaconate? It is advised to meet with your Rector and then meet with the Archdeacon. Discernment about this call takes place on parish and diocesan levels, separate from studies taken at ICS. The discernment process may take place while the student attends ICS.

Considering a call as a Lay Preacher or Lay Catechist? Lay preacher and lay catechist preparation requires formal application to the Bishop and involves a course of study that meets canonical requirements.

Diaconal Students are required to attend all live courses when offered — NOTE — If you are planning on attending a Live Course please register in advance by using the Contact Us link above or by emailing kalday@cfdiocese.org. We need to know you plan on attending to keep you updated on changes regarding the class should they occur.
