The Most Rev. Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, is doing well following surgery on Tuesday, July 31, to remove his prostate gland, according to an Episcopal Church news release.

Bishop Curry, who gained worldwide fame in mid-May when he delivered the sermon at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, was diagnosed with prostate cancer during a recent annual exam. Curry and his family said they appreciate the many prayers and well-wishes during this time, and request privacy during the recovery stage.

Curry also made headlines last month at the General Convention of the Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas, when he watched a resolution on same-sex marriage pass both the House of Deputies and House of Bishops, and the Diocese of Cuba get readmitted to the Church for the first time since 1957.

The Diocese of Cuba delegation received a standing ovation at the convention.
